The Grenadines are the southernmost Caribbean islands and are surrounded by reefs, crystal clear waters and palm lined beaches. The colors here are spectacular and the inhabitants easily transmit their friendly, laid back vibe. One of the trip highlights is the Tobago Cays marine park where guests can kite and swim with sea turtles and rays in their stunning natural habitat.

The trip
Foiling on a Kite Trip Cruise in the Grenadines

Start you trip directly in the Grenadines or sail across from one of the larger, neighbouring islands. Once in the Grenadines, visit a different island each day and enjoy the multitude of kite spots on offer. Each island has its own charm and everyone always finds their favourite Grenadine. All kite spots can be reached within an hour which allows epic downwinders between the islands.

The Grenadines have the best wind statistics and the largest variety of kite spots of any region in the Caribbean. Some spots are better suited to advanced riders while others can be enjoyed by everyone. Whatever your riding style you will find what you are looking for. Ultra flat for freestylers, island crossings for cruisers and waves for waveriders.

Mayreau Island Kite Spots

Mayreau Island

Mayreau is the smallest inhabited island and is often quoted as the most picturesque anchorage in the Grenadines. The windward lagoon offers side-onshore conditions and is an exceptional spot to play in the waves and get high air from the kickers. Mayreau is also a great place to start a downwinder to Union Island. On shore the local rastas serve drinks and fresh lobster on the pristene palm lined beach. A short hike up to the rustic hilltop village is rewarded with stunning views of the islands.

Kite spot Mayreau Garden

Mayreau Garden

Just south of Mayreau’s main spot is a secluded bay called Mayreau Garden. Often our first anchorage of the trip Mayreau Garden’s vast kitesurfing area offers  a safe and uncrowded environment for riders to discover what the grenadines have to offer. Suitable for riders of all levels Mayreau Garden is also good for taking lessons and starting downwinders to the neighbouring ‘Union island’.

Kite spot Tobago Cays

Tobago Cays

The Tobago Cays Marine park is one of the most renowned destinations in the Caribbean. The four tiny islands are populated with birds and iguanas and the lagoons are home to hundreds of sea turtles and rays.  Kitesurfing here is breathtaking for the scenery and water colours. Conditions are flat/choppy and there is a small left hand wave at the end of horseshoe reef. The Cays are a good departure point for a downwinder to Mayreau.

Union Island Kite Spots

Union Island

Union Island is the main settlement of the Grenadines and is host to a variety of local bars, restaurants, souvenir stores and a picturesque local market. The kite spot consists of a shallow, flat lagoon which is also home to Happy Island – a small, man made island with a bar and restaurant. Outside the lagoon, Palm island is a 5 minute ride upwind and offers nice left hand waves with sideshore wind. Both Union and Palm are for advanced riders only.

Kitesurfing in Fregate kite spot

Fregate Island

Fregate offers the flattest and safest kiteboarding conditions in the Grenadines. The water is crystal clear and the wind is offshore (back up by safety boat). To get here it’s a 30 minute sail from Union’s main spot and advanced riders can downwind the whole way inside a shallow, turquoise lagoon. Whatever your level you will appreciate Fregate as a great place to progress to the next level.

Mopion Island Kite Spots Petit Saint Vincent

Morpion Island

Morpion Island is a tiny little sand bar surrounded by a small, turquoise lagoon and coral reefs.  With a single umbrella offering shade for its visitors, Morpion is the picture-perfect desert island. Kiting inside the lagoon is reserved for expert kitesurfers while intermediate riders can launch of the catamaran and ride outside the coral reef. Frankly this trip was really magic. The crew did all their best to make us happy. Everyone is still amazed by the meals prepared by the chef. The boat is very clean and comfortable. The wind was there at required time and strength. The beauty of the Grenadines was astonishing along the different visited islands and the captain adapted really smartly our itinerary to provide us with the best kiting conditions.

Discovering the Grenadines in a catamaran and kitesurfing all day long was one of the best trips ever! Our boat was awesome and the crew were even better. The landscapes, the kiting conditions, the great weather and the sailing was once in a lifetime adventure!

This was the best kiteboarding cruise! The captain and chef taught me how to back roll with style and made sure we all had the best kite conditions (and Sushi!). The spots were better than in the movies, every photo looked like a postcard. Definitely recommend it!
